Meet Our Team

Jeff Block - Executive Director

In 2017, I began searching for a greater purpose in my professional life, not knowing where that path would lead. I grew up and spent much of my life in Houston, building a 20‑year career in the restaurant industry where I quickly moved into management. I loved interacting with people and creating positive experiences for them, but the long hours and late nights often kept me away from my wife and young children.

My passion for caregiving began through deeply personal experiences. Nearly 15 years ago, my father was diagnosed with a condition similar to ALS, a devastating illness that changed our family forever. My mother was his primary caregiver, and my brothers and I helped as much as we could. Eventually, we brought in outside caregiving support, giving my mother the relief and peace of mind she desperately needed. Years later, my father‑in‑law suffered a serious fall that led to a terminal condition, and once again, a caregiver stepped in to help carry the load when our family could not do it alone. Those moments gave me a profound appreciation for the impact a caregiver can have on a family in need.

When my wife and I moved from Houston to Dallas (Frisco) in 2017, I made the decision to leave the restaurant industry behind and seek a career that offered both personal fulfillment and more time with my family. Soon after, I was invited to join a home care agency in a senior management role. It has proven to be the best professional decision of my life. Today, I feel true purpose in my work, supporting families, guiding our team, and drawing on my own experiences to ensure we provide the compassionate, high‑quality care every family deserves.

Although I now call Dallas home, Houston will always hold a special place in my heart. My wife and I love the outdoors, whether it’s time spent on a beach or a lake, that’s where we’re happiest. We’re also avid baseball and football fans (go Astros!), enjoy live music, great food, and quality time with friends. Our two children are now grown, and we’re grateful every day for their health and happiness.

The home care industry has given so much to me over the years, and I’m committed to giving back by positively impacting as many lives as I can.

Derrick McDowell - Chief Technology Officer

My passion for innovation began early, driven by a deep curiosity about how technology can transform lives and create lasting positive change. This passion guided me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Texas, where I developed a strong foundation in software development, system design, and innovative problem-solving techniques. Over the past decade, I’ve focused on leveraging technology and digital innovation to scale businesses, optimize processes, and drive meaningful results.

In previous roles, I successfully led technology-driven initiatives, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and customer engagement through strategic use of analytics and innovative solutions. By identifying and implementing cutting-edge technologies, I was able to streamline operations, improve user experiences, and position organizations for sustainable growth.

As CTO at Home Matters, my goal is to harness technology to elevate the quality of care we provide, creating systems that enhance both operational effectiveness and the well-being of our clients and their families. I am committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration, ensuring that our technology solutions align seamlessly with our compassionate caregiving mission.

Outside of work, I enjoy playing basketball, spending time with family, and exploring new technologies!

Lauren Bergeron - Chief of Staff

Throughout my career I have always been dedicated to ensuring any organization I am a part of is well-prepared for future growth and success. With a strong background in project management and process optimization, I often work behind the scenes to make sure operations run smoothly and efficiently, allowing the company to scale while maintaining high standards.

Before stepping into this role, I held positions as Sr. Project Manager and Digital Project Manager at an Elite HubSpot Partner Agency, leading teams to solve complex challenges and improve systems across various departments. My focus has always been on identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions that drive both immediate results and long-term growth.

Known for my problem-solving skills, I am passionate about creating processes that help organizations thrive. As Chief of Staff, I’ll continue to play a pivotal role in aligning teams, enhancing communication, and supporting leadership to execute strategic goals.

While I am not working, you can usually find me at my children’s sporting events, enjoying any type of Louisiana cuisine, or simply spending time with my family and loved ones.

With a keen eye on the future, I am committed to making sure Home Matters is ready for what’s next, from ensuring internal processes are streamlined to helping teams stay agile and focused on what matters most.

Joel Thomas - Director of Business Development

One of my earliest memories is from a Sunday afternoon after church. My parents sat me down with my older brother and younger sister and asked us what we thought about going to Mexico as missionaries. Growing up in Mexico as a missionary kid taught me early on and firsthand about caring for folks, from helping members in my dad’s church with hospital visits to planning, meal prepping, and cooking for our Tuesday night home gatherings, then cleaning up afterward.

About 11 years ago, I had an opportunity to move to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and buy a run-down restaurant with my brothers to build up and feed some Louisiana folks handmade, street-style tacos.  We used everything we had to create a menu and start our restaurant business. That was the beginning of what has brought me to this amazing opportunity with this incredible Home Matters Caregiving team.

Through my restaurant experience, my technical background, and being in the right place at the right time, I was able to join forces with Tyson and Tyler in a restaurant technology start-up that grew exponentially and became a publicly traded company on NASDAQ.  Not only was that experience valuable in and of itself, but it also connected me with an extended family, which is growing and growing.

I have a passion for people, I love technology, I love providing great care to folks and I love being part of a family of friends who are excited to help others every day.  I could have never imagined how my crazy life’s puzzle pieces would fit together to be here but thankfully God knows and makes it all happen.

Tyler Williams - Franchise / Area Owner

In 2020, I was looking for a new business venture. I was introduced to an opportunity in the in-home senior care industry and after many brainstorming and strategy sessions, I found myself becoming more and more passionate about caring for our aging population. Since then, my guiding principle for every decision our team makes is simple: how will it enhance our ability to offer better care to more individuals?

Drawing upon my experience in marketing and operations, I have supported our team in various capacities. This includes shaping our core processes and procedures via continuous improvement, as well as caregiver recruitment and scheduling and increasing our engagement with the communities we serve. I love being able to say that our team truly embodies servant leadership and strives to give all of our clients the care that they deserve.

I call Louisiana home, with my wife and son. Away from work I enjoy coaching youth sports, playing golf and supporting my alma maters, Mississippi State University and the University of Memphis. I’m also a fan of live music and finding good food off the beaten path.

My ultimate objective for our agencies, and the Home Matters franchise as a whole, is to foster continued growth, enabling us to serve more seniors and create more job opportunities for caregivers.

Tyson Queen - Franchise / Area Owner

At my core, I am an entrepreneur. Over the past 12 years, I’ve dedicated my life to starting and building companies in both the on-demand consumer technology space and the senior care industry. Along this journey, I had the privilege of turning a simple idea into a publicly traded company, creating thousands of jobs and opportunities. While proud of this accomplishment, I yearned to align my personal calling with my professional mission, leading me to the undeniable choice of Home Matters Caregiving.

In 2020, amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, I made the pivotal decision to join the Home Matters team. This commitment wasn’t just a strategic business move; it was a heartfelt dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of our aging population, their families, and our incredible team members. For me, it’s about extending the same level of care, compassion, and dedication I reserve for my own family to the communities we serve.

Beyond the business realm, I’m a former college basketball player standing tall at 6’5”. When I’m not in the office, you’ll likely find me savoring moments with my family or indulging in my current sports obsession, beach volleyball. I am happily married with two incredible sons, family is my anchor. Recognizing the preciousness of time, I strive to be the best husband and father I can be, ensuring that every moment away from them holds profound meaning. I’m grateful that Home Matters allows me to seamlessly merge my personal calling and professional mission.

Joseph Pousson - General Counsel

I’m an attorney with a passion for solving complex legal challenges and helping businesses grow with confidence. My experience spans insurance and corporate litigation, and I’ve had the privilege of serving as general counsel for a range of clients — from early-stage startups to established companies in industries like subsea exploration, engineering, and construction.

One of the highlights of my career was serving as General Counsel for a high-growth startup, where I helped guide the company through legal and regulatory hurdles — ultimately taking it public on Nasdaq. I currently serve as in-house counsel for Polaris Engineering, supporting the business across a range of legal and strategic matters.

Over the years, I’ve become a trusted advisor to CEOs, founders, and boards — known for my strategic thinking and ability to navigate high-stakes issues. My litigation background includes leading breach of contract and insurance claims valued between $50 million and $200 million.

In 2023, I was honored to be unanimously appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court to a temporary judicial role in the 14th Judicial District (Calcasieu Parish), a recognition I’m deeply proud of. Beyond the legal world, I care deeply about civic and community engagement. I’ve supported initiatives like the Bayou Greenbelt Project and serve on several nonprofit boards and foundations. I also enjoy mentoring and contributing to the broader business and legal ecosystem wherever I can.
